Beyond Paradise main character’s exit ‘sealed’ as star drops huge hint

A Beyond Paradise star has teased a main character could end up leaving the popular BBC series.

Shipton Abbott Police Station, which the spin-off series is centred around, has been threatened with closure, with talks of a centralised hub circulating.

Leading actor Kris Marshall, who portrays Humphrey Goodman, previously described the situation as an “existential threat” in an interview about the show’s return.

There are talks about whether a merger will go through and what the future has in store for Shipton Abbott Police Station’s staff. Will some people be left without a job?

In a teaser trailer for next week’s episode, PC Kelby Hartford (played by Dylan Llewellyn) says: “You honestly think they could get rid of one of us?”

Could the person who potentially gets the axe be Margo Martins (Felicity Montagu)?

She says in the latest trailer for the BBC series: “The chief super said nothing is off the table.”

In an interview with Radio Times ahead of series two arriving on screens, the actress who plays Margo said it would not have occurred to her character that she’d be the first to go if the merger happened.

Felicity explained: “Even if you go to the headquarters, they’ve got to have someone to answer the phones. She thinks she’s needed, and I think she is.”

Zahra Ahmadi (DS Esther Williams) chimed in to stress: “They wouldn’t survive without her.”

Felicity agreed, adding: “No, they wouldn’t. Not as it stands at the moment…”

The Margo actress also said her character believes she is “the central engine of that station”.

Reflecting on the situation with the police station, Kris shared: “Everything is on a one-way track to being homogenised and centralised, and so that obviously removes the soul of community policing, which is something that’s close to Humphrey’s heart.

“And because of that, the station house, their mini, quirky station house, is directly under threat of being assimilated into the hub.”

Will Beyond Paradise fans soon be bidding farewell to well-loved characters if the changes occur at the police station?

Beyond Paradise airs on Fridays on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 8pm.
