The couple were married for 22 years until Rene’s death in 2016.
Celine remembered the start of her relationship with Rene, saying that she loved him from the very beginning.
She told CBS’s Mo Rocca: “I fell in love with him immediately.
“Not in the romance way, I was 12 years old. I was in love with the way he treated everyone around me, including my whole family and myself.”
She shared about his heart-wrenching fight with the illness, confessing that it was tough for their family to see Rene’s life gradually fade away.
The mother of three said: “Before he left, it was very, very difficult for all of us.
“For me especially, and my children, to see the man of my life die a little bit more every day. And when he left, it was kind of a relief for me that the man that I love, the only man that I kissed, the only man that I loved.
Yeah. I never kissed another man in my life. So the man of my life was my partner, and we were one. So when he stopped suffering I said to myself, he’s ok. And he deserves not to suffer.”
