Lorraine suffered a serious fashion blunder on the Good Friday edition as Amal Clooney’s image got mixed up with Helen Mirren’s on a copycat style segment. Jo Elvin was in the studio with Christine Lampard, who was standing in for Lorraine Kelly.
The idea of the fashion item was to show viewers how to get celebrity style on a budget. Jo had selected outfits from the likes of Amal, Helen, Oprah Winfrey and Jennifer Aniston and replecated them wth high street alternative pieces.
After recreating a smart look from Amal they moved onto an outfit of Helen’s. Running an image of the star Jo described her as “rocking a bit of a casual chic.”
For her part Christine gushed about the outfit saying: “Now she looks great there, I do like that.” Jo then took viewers through the cost of the outfit detailing each item.
“Now we’re guessing that very much looks like a Chanel jacket, which is going to put you in the hole for about £9,000,” she explained. “The shirt is Gucci for £600. Jeans Frame – Frame jeans are around £250. The bag is Proenza Schouler and even worse the boots are Loewe boots, £1,100,” she revealed.
She then revealed that the total for the outfit was an eye water £11,510 before showing her cheaper version of the look.
“I’m going to show you Sharon, looking almost the same in something really fabulous,” she said as her Helen lookalike model arrived on set.
“Now I actually think I prefer this jacket. This lovely metallic effect there from Lipsy for £72,” she raved.
“Just popped over a shirt from Primark for £16, jeans, lovely pair of skinnies from Peacock for £20, bag is £38 from Accessorize, great shopper that one and the boots are George at Asda £20 how comfy do they look,” she enquired.
The total for her version was a mere £166 – over £11,000 cheaper than Helen’s.
However viewers never got to do a side by side comparison of the two looks.
As Christine and Jo complimented the look a split screen apepared but instead of Helen’s image they used the previous Amal Clooney look which bore no resemblance to the outfit.
However neither woman addressed the glitch and they simply carried on with their next look from Jennifer Aniston.
Lorraine is on ITV weekdays at 9am.
