Peter Kay’s co-star addresses uncertain future of hit BBC show Car Share

Fans were left devastated when Peter Kay’s Car Share came to an end back in 2018. Sian Gibson who starred in the popular BBC comedy show alongside Peter Kay confessed she is open to reprising her role as Kayleigh Gibson.

Peter, 50, decided to end the show after its huge success as he wanted to finish on a high. At the time he compared it to the likes of Fawlty Towers and wanted to follow in its footsteps.

In a new interview, the actress, 47, was quizzed about a possible return, which she did not completely shut down. She revealed that Peter – who she has been friends with for more than two decades, is very busy so nothing will happen soon.

“Peter’s very busy for the next two years with his massive, sell-out arena tour, so I know as much as anyone else,” she told the Radio Times. It was reported that the final episode of the show was watched by more than six million viewers, making it one of the BBC’s most popular sitcoms.

Prior to taking on the role, Sian revealed that she was on the verge of giving up acting. At the time she had just had her daughter and recalled her agent took her off their website. Before admitting that she never thought that the gig would change her life.

Peter and Sian had been friends after meeting at university in their late teens and was said to be thrilled when she was asked to star alongside him

Overnight, Sian’s fame skyrocketed which she called an added “bonus” as she did not expect the attention it brought.

In turn, it also gave her a huge confidence boost to get back into acting, which she revealed allowed her to fall back in love with the job.

She noted that she did get herself back on an agent’s website before joking that she ended up swapping. Sian went on to work on a string of other roles including The Power of Parker.

After taking a break away from the stage, Peter made a triumphant return to touring. His highly anticipated comeback tour kicked off back in 2022 and will end next year.

Peter had to reschedule his tour as in 2017 he was forced to pull out due to “unforeseen family circumstances”.
