Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher announce separation after 20 years despite ‘devotion’

Actors Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher have announced their divorce after nearly 14 years of marriage.

The couple shared a joint statement on their Instagram stories on Friday, revealing that they had quietly worked through this change in their relationship.

“After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down,” the statement read.

The statement continued: “In 2023 we jointly filed to end our marriage. We have always prioritized our privacy, and have been quietly working through this change. We forever share in our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family’s wish for privacy.”

The abrupt news comes after Page Six reported that the couple had been living separate lives, with Sacha even meeting with celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser as of late 2023.

Sacha, 52, and Isla, 48, first met at a party in Sydney in 2001.

Speaking about their initial meeting, Sacha told the New York Times: “She was hilarious. We were at a very pretentious party, and me and her bonded over taking the mick out of the other people in the party. I knew instantly. I don’t know if she did.”

The couple got engaged in 2004, and Isla converted to Judaism, Sacha’s religion, in early 2007 before their wedding in Paris in 2010.

They have three children together: two daughters, Olive and Elula, and a son, Montgomery.

In recent months, the couple had been spotted attending high-profile events separately, with Sacha mingling solo at the CAA Oscar party and the exclusive The Party post-Oscars bash, while Fisher attended the Vanity Fair party on her own.

Chatter about the couple’s separation first arose before Christmas when Isla was photographed without her wedding ring.
