Stacey Solomon’s brand-new show, Renovation Rescue, debuted on Channel 4 on Wednesday night and saw the mum-of-five put her DIY skills to the test in a bid to help unhappy homeowners who had encountered bad builders.
The first episode saw Stacey, 34, lead an incredible home transformation for a couple in Enfield, London. They had previously spent a whopping £70,000 extending their bungalow but discovered that it had been a botched job, with builders even using bags of screen for underfloor heating.
Telling Stacey their heartbreaking story, wife Caroline burst into tears and the X Factor star vowed to fulfil their “dream”.
Elsewhere in the episode, Stacey also shared an insight into the renovations at her family’s Essex mansion, lovingly dubbed Pickle Cottage.
She took viewers into her garage-turned-gym and shared her hopes of dividing the space with a wall so that she could exercise in peace and Joe could have his own area for his fishing gear.
Joe, 42, appeared with their children Rex, four, Rose, two, and Belle, one, and the couple discussed how the garage would be divided.
The former EastEnders star said: “Surely, you can just come at an angle here, a diagonal angle.” However, Stacey was having none of it and shot back: “No! imagine! I’m not building a diagonal wall, what do I look like to you?”
Joe looked unimpressed and shook his head at the camera, quipping: “I’m the client! So, whether you can deliver it, I’ll go and get Nick Knowles!”
The Loose Women panellist laughed as she retaliated: “This is our shed…I’m the client!” Joe teased again: “Don’t make me get Nick Knowles!”
Speaking outside, Joe continued: “100 percent I’ve been caught on the hop. The reality is, I’m going to get a tiny section of the garage and Stacey is going to have a state-of-the-art gym.”
“Leave me enough space for my fishing stuff!” he shouted back at his wife.
Stacey then joked: “Joe keeps calling me Donald Trump and saying that I’m just going around building walls. Once I know how to do this, trust me, I’m going to split our bedroom in half, I’m going to have my own bit of the toilet. There will be walls everywhere!”
The clash tickled fans and some shared their reactions on Twitter. One wrote: “’Don’t make me go and get Nick Knowles’ [heart and fire emoji] Joe Swash to @StaceySolomon on her lovely renovation programme.”
Another said: “Joe Swash calling Stacey Solomon Donald Trump because she is learning how to build a wall took me a bit by surprise there. #RenovationRescue.”
And a third commented: “Husband was sitting quietly. Asked him what was wrong. He said he knows now that this is going to cause him a list of about 250 jobs to do, because @StaceySolomon is showing me how easy this stuff actually is, and his cover is blown #RenovationRescueC4 @Channel4.”
Stacey Solomon’s Renovation Rescue airs Wednesdays at 9pm on Channel 4.
