The Community of Madrid, for its part, emphasises that 6.5 million euros have been invested in the maintenance, improvement and renovation of the building that has housed the courts since 2017.
Regarding the current state of this judicial headquarters, the union points out that this has been the case a new widespread power outagewhich affected the computers, telephones and air conditioning system of the entire building. At the same time, there has been a slice of running water throughout the headquarters. “When the power supply was restored, the air conditioning machines were still at a standstill, causing the temperature in the entire building to rise rapidly. To this must be added the series of roof detachments in recent days in different parts of the building – courts, 29, 33 and 37, or the union buildings – caused by the intense water leaks that have been running through the ceilings for days, sometimes next to the electrical installations,” he reports. Thus, he points out that this Wednesday the water was circulating on the roofs of several courts, such as Instruction No. 41, where the damage it caused was visible in several panels that could collapse at any moment.
From CCOO in Madrid they immediately demand all information from the Ministry of Justice about what is happening in the building, its size and scope the severity of the faults and the risk assessment what these mean for the staff working at the head office and for the public that visits it every day.
It also requires the adoption of urgent and immediate measures, including teleworking – except to address urgent matters – to ensure the health and safety of workers if air conditioning equipment stops working or if the safety of building structures and facilities is not guaranteed.
Madrid's CCOO reiterates the request it recently made to the Health and Safety Commission to draw up a detailed report on the status of the Plaza de Castilla building.
Nearly seven million euros invested
The Community of Madrid highlights that 6.5 million euros have been invested maintenance, improvement and renovation of the building where since 2017 the courts of Plaza de Castilla in the capital have been located.
For the government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, this demonstrates “the regional government's commitment to providing professionals and users with modern, efficient and accessible justice infrastructure in each of the region's 21 judicial districts.”
Only in recent months has the regional government carried out specific work in this area, such as the renovation of the auditorium or the cleaning of facades and windowsas well as the signing of a new maintenance and cleaning contract – with a larger budget and a new company that will carry out these works -.
These facilities have also benefited from the action plan recently launched against high temperatures in the judicial seat of the 21 judicial districts region of. The aim is to provide more attention and coverage to the various judicial headquarters in the region this summer.
They further emphasise that the regional government has periodically dealt with all these matters within the occupational health and safety committee, which assesses the working conditions under which the employees in this building carry out their work. The Deputy Minister of Justice and Victims, Carmen Martín García-Matosand the General Director of the Judicial Infrastructure, Pablo García-Valdecasas, maintain continuous and fluid meetings with all the key players in the administration of justice to meet their needs.
Another 400,000 euros more
The Community of Madrid will invest another 385,000 euros to carry out improvement works in the judicial building in Plaza de Castilla, in the capital, without prejudice to the actions carried out to date.
This contract was put out to tender in February of this year and formalized on June 20. The implementation period is eight months from the signing of the reconsideration document, scheduled for July 20.
The work, which will focus on the structure of the building, is derived from this the Technical Building Inspection (IHO)include actions that affect structural elements, as well as repairing moisture leaks.
In both cases, the works will be supplemented by the renovation of the various interior finishing elements that have been damaged or affected by these works.
In fact, during this term of office, action will be taken against the 90% of the judicial authorities in the region with an investment of over 830 million eurosas confirmed by the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Local Government, Miguel Ángel García Martín, during a press breakfast this week.
