The PP joins Vox in most cases, where they rule, also boycott LGTBI Pride: whether that is so prevent flags from being hung of the group or, directly, restricting the rights of LGBTI people, such as in the Community of Madrid by Isabel Díaz Ayuso.
But then June 28 arrives, Pride Day, and the leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, thinks it is a good idea to commemorate this date on his social networks. Specifically, the PP celebrated Pride by illuminating the logo of its headquarters on Génova Street with colored lights, and Feijóo documented it by posting a video of it.
The 'popular' leader states in his tweet that although “there is still work to be done”, Spain is “one of the most free and egalitarian countries”. Feijóo thanks the “women and men of all faiths and circumstances who have brought [a España] so far”, without making a single allusion to the LGTBI community itself.
Feijóo assures that he is committed “to respecting all people, so that they can be and feel whatever they want, however they want”, although in his message he does not mention the regression of LGBTI rights that the far right is determined to achieve –also hand in hand with the PP– in every institution where it ends up.
Even among the popular barons there is 'diversity' when it comes to celebrating Pride. While the Andalusian president Juan Manuel Moreno has defended on her social networks that “diversity is a source of pride” –although, again, without mentioning the LGTBI community–, Isabel Díaz Ayuso from Madrid has not written a post about it (for now), nor has the Valencian Carlos Mazón, with Vox in his government. Yes, he has expressed himself on his Twitter account Alfonso ManuecoPresident of the Junta de Castilla y León, which also governs with Vox, who has delivered a blunt message in “defense of the rights and freedoms of all people” and “against any form of discrimination”… yes, by adding the emoticon of an LGTBI flag.
