Four people lost their lives in a shipwreck in Greece

Two women and two children died on the Greek island of Kos, and ten people went missing south of Crete. Hardly a day goes by without an accident involving a refugee boat.

The boat accident occurred northeast of the Greek island of Kos. Four migrants killed. There were two women and two children aged three and five, news channel ERTNews reported, citing the coast guard. Therefore, 27 people were saved.

A large rescue operation has also been underway on the southern island of Crete and the small island of Gavdos since the morning – 98 migrants have been rescued so far, and another ten people are being searched for by boats and helicopters.

A small boat carrying 30 migrants capsized near Samos Island

Three weeks ago, three women and a girl died near the island of Samos when a rubber boat carrying 30 migrants capsized near the coast due to strong winds.

Although the number of refugees in other EU countries has remained stable or decreased so far this year compared to 2023, according to the EU border protection agency Frontex, the number of refugees has increased by around 15 percent in Greece. According to Frontex, more than 45,000 migrants entered the country from the start of the year to early October.
