New York.- Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada appeared yesterday in Brooklyn court, where the US Attorney's Office asked the Judge to analyze the possible death penalty against the capo due to the seriousness of his crimes.
Judge Brian Cogan accepted that the death penalty was discussed before a possible trial.
Yesterday, the 76 year old capo did not use a wheelchair as in previous trials. With a bushy beard and mustache and the white roots of his thick hair covering the black hair he wore for his first appearance in court, Zambada entered and during the 10 minute appearance he did not speak or address the Court.
The highest judicial authority in the US will decide whether to allow the death penalty. Judge Cogan scheduled the next hearing for January 15, 2025.
Cogan sentenced former Security Minister Genaro García Luna to 38 years in prison on Wednesday. With information from AFP
