An 18-year-old man was arrested last Thursday (17), in Damião, Agreste region in Paraíba, after publishing a video on social media in which he appeared to offer drugs and alcohol to marmoset monkeys.
The suspect offered marijuana and alcohol to the captive animal, according to Civil Police.
Images show the animal looking transformed, listening to reggae music, while smoking marijuana and consuming alcohol with the suspect.
According to the Civil Police, the man not only offered the substance to the primate, but also stated that he was not afraid of the authorities and insinuated that he could kill the animal.
The case was registered at Picuí Police Station Section 13. The youth was charged with mistreatment and mistreatment of animals, a crime that carries a penalty ranging from 2 to 5 years in prison, in addition to a fine and a ban on owning animals. According to the police, the crime is non-bailable.
The delegate in charge of the case, Décio De Souza, expressed his outrage at what happened, classifying the act as cruel and stating that all reports of abuse would be investigated.
