Foreign Ministry chief slams ambiguity at Semarant

Alicia Bárcena, Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), acknowledged the disorganization in the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), which she will lead from October 1 in the government of Claudia Sheinbaum, and also criticized budget cuts and accusations of corruption.

During the presentation of the Socio-Environmental Agenda 2024: diagnosis and proposals, Rector Bárcena accepted that Semarnat has several challenges: “First, the institution lost 40% of its budgetary resources, from 2018 to today all areas have lost an average of 40%, except for Conagua, which is the only country that has grown, but Conagua has not dedicated itself to environmental issues.”

The official stated that they have challenges in coordinating the work between entities such as Conagua, Conafor, Conabio, Conanp, which appear to be deconcentrated bodies, “they feel very independent in carrying out their work without coordination, they do not talk to each other,” he stated.
