Morena's representative in the Mexico City Congress, Valentina Batres, presented an initiative to reform various provisions of the local Urban Development Law, in order to guarantee access to public spaces.
In an ordinary session on 22 October, he stated that the aim of the initiative was to realize inclusive urban planning, which protects universal access to public space without discriminatory practices, such as so-called “hostile architecture”.

In this case, he explains that this term was promoted in 2000, when benches with sections and without backs, surfaces with peaks, were considered to preclude their use for certain exercises or groups.
“These measures result in social segregation and exclusion. “By designing urban environments to alleviate poverty and restrict access, rights to public spaces that should be accessible to everyone are being violated,” he commented.
In this regard, he considers that the Mexico City Congress has a responsibility to build a regulatory framework that prevents the implementation of hostile infrastructure and promotes spaces with accessibility, equality and participation.
The Urban Development and Infrastructure Commission will be responsible for its decision.
