Film spoof with the fall of the Angel of Liberty

Mexico City.- Film footage simulating the collapse of the Angel of Independence sparked concerns on social media, which turned out to be unfounded.

In the morning, video footage was shown showing part of the golden statue on the steps of the iconic monument on Paseo de la Reforma.

The image went viral to such an extent that at 10:00, director and screenwriter José Manuel Craviotto recorded an explanatory message. “The angel didn't fall, it looked like it fell, but it was a replica of a rubber, polyurethane scene,” he assured.

“We are shooting a movie, our “Angelito” is fine. We are recreating scenes from 1957.”

An earthquake that occurred on July 28 that year, measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale, caused the Winged Victory to break after falling from a 36 meter high column. The monument remained surrounded by an iron fence for approximately one month.
