There is a higher incidence of breast cancer in people over 65 years of age

Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor in women, and in Durango, the highest incidence of new cases in the last two years and eight months occurred in the 65 and older age group, with a total of 512 diagnoses.

However, 172 cases were also detected in people aged between 25 and 44 years in the same period. The Durango Health Secretariat (SSD) reported that from 2022 to August 2024, 1,741 new cases of breast cancer were recorded.

This data comes from the SSD, Jamsostek and ISSSTE medical units. Of these, 496 cases occurred in the 50 to 59 year age group, while 349 cases were reported in women aged 60 to 64 years, and 212 cases occurred in the 45 to 49 year age group.

Per year, 683 cases were diagnosed in 2022, 685 cases were diagnosed in 2023, and 373 cases were detected in January-August 2024.

Regarding deaths due to breast cancer in the same period, 337 deaths were recorded. Of this number, 146 cases occurred in 2022, 119 cases in 2023, and 72 cases from January to August 2024.
