The body of a 44-year-old man was found holding a fallen high-voltage cable on the Igarapé-Açu branch, on the AM-352 highway, in Novo Airão, in the interior of Amazonas. Residents believe he tried to pull a cable from the road and suffered a fatal electric shock.
Based on information from Comunidade Nova Esperança, the victim suffered burns all over his body which was thought to be caused by an electric current. High voltage cables are responsible for supplying electricity to the community.
A team from Amazonas Energia was called to shut down the power grid in the area, while the Amazonas Military Fire Department (CBMAM) rescued the body and sent it to the Legal Medical Institute (IML).
Marcelo de Jesus dos Santos, president of Comunidade Nova Esperança, classified the situation as negligence by energy supply companies, and highlighted the lack of maintenance of the power grid in the region.
